WHAT IS TRUTH?
In a time not so long ago, it seemed one could easily find truth; in the newspaper, on the television, by word of mouth. Nowadays, I feel there is not as much certainty in what we read or hear.
I thought of this in terms of what scripture teaches. First of all, Jesus stated, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me. ”(John 14:6) Seeing Jesus, as the truth, makes a huge difference in the way we live our lives. But let us be reminded, it is not merely “seeing” Jesus as the truth, it is living in such a way which indicates Jesus is the truth. We live in a time when many want to find their own “truths” which fit their desired categories and claim theirs are as valid as anyone else’s. Such approach is dangerous and leads many into lifestyles which are not pleasing to the Lord.
We need to ask ourselves, are living examples of Jesus was truth, as the way, as life? This is a challenge because it requires our being totally committed to the way of Christ. After all, he did say, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) Real freedom comes from living in the truth. There will be many lies and half- truths and deceptions sent our way. It is up to us to stay connected with the one who is truth, Jesus Christ. Then, when we hear the outlandish things in the media, we can begin to discern what is false and what is true.
