St. Mark’s Church provides many opportunities for giving and greatly appreciates all contributions. In an attempt to help our counters and financial secretary, and to make sure your contributions are credited to the proper account, the Finance Committee would like to make the following suggestions:

1. Please make all checks payable to “St. Mark’s UMC.”
2. Please use the “for” line on the check to specify the account and if it is a memorial.
3. Please note on both the envelope and the check the account or memorial to which you are making the contribution.
4. Please write separate checks for separate accounts or memorials and place them in separate envelopes.

St. Mark’s has the following accounts:
General Budget Building Fund Parsonage Fund
Scholarship Fund Choir Fund Compassion Fund
Fran Lynch (missionary) Kitchen Fund Holston Home for Children
Children’s Ministry Endowment Fund Missions Endowment Fund Youth Ministry Endowment Fund
Any of the above accounts can be specified as a memorial gift. All gifts received are subject to the following guidelines:

1. Contributions and memorials received, but not specified for a particular account, will be used at the discretion of the Memorials Committee and Church Council.

2. Contributions specified for a particular item or account, memorial or otherwise, must be used only for that purpose according to ¶ 259 e) of The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 2004.

3. If a contribution is received for an object or cause not approved by the Church Council the contributor will be contacted with a list of appropriate objects, accounts, etc. to determine if any of these are acceptable alternatives for the gift.

4. If the contributor does not want to support an approved cause, or purchase an approved item, the gift will be either returned to the contributor or the matter will be referred to the Endowment Committee. The Endowment Committee will work with the contributor on the establishment of a new Permanent Trust or Endowment Fund subject to the approval of the Church Council.
